(Somewhat) Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my OneCard to make payments on a flight?

You certainly can! Anywhere you can use your Mastercard®, you can use your OneCard.

Can I make pre-authorized payments with my OneCard?

Yes. Whether it’s a hotel booking or anything else requiring a pre-authorized payment, you can do it with your OneCard. These payments will appear in your account as a pending transaction, which will then be updated once the institution pushes and updates your transaction.

Can I pay for gas at the pumps using my OneCard?

Yes. Just as you can use your OneCard for pre-authorized payments at hotels and other establishments. Gas payments, like all other pre-authorized payments, will first appear in your account as a pending transaction. As soon as the institution pushes your transaction, your account balance will be updated to reflect this payment.

Will I be able to use my OneCard at any ATM?

Your OneCard is certified by Mastercard®, meaning you should be able to use your OneCard at virtually any ATM in the world! If you ever do find you’re having difficulty withdrawing funds from an ATM, simply call our customer support at 1-844-438-3939 and we’ll assist you.

Can I use my OneCard on a ferry or cruise ship?

Yes, there should be no issues with this. Be careful though! Cruise ships often charge a temporary premium on transactions made on board. You may find that you have been charged twice: once as for a normal purchase, and once as a pre-authorized payment. As soon as the transaction is processed, it will correct itself to the proper amount, but be aware that this premium may temporarily affect the amount of funds available for use on your card.

It’s also worth paying attention to the DCC (dynamic currency conversion). Try to avoid having the machine make the exchange. If this happens, it will pull from your OneCard in CAD, regardless of whether you have the currency in question on there already. What’s more, it will charge its own conversion fee and you won’t be able to get the great rates offered by Continental.

Can I use my OneCard in countries with restricted currencies? (Cuba? North Korea?)

Yes, but it depends on if we have placed restrictions beyond that on the country. Refer to our list of high-risk countries and regions that have been blocked. If you can’t find the country on the list, then you are good to use your OneCard wherever Mastercard® is accepted.

Can I use my OneCard in conflict zones? (Crimea? Syria?)

No. Unfortunately, Continental cannot guarantee that you will be able to use your OneCard in such regions.

Are there any places I can’t send money using my OneCard?

Yes and no. There are no physical restrictions on sending money to other OneCards. As long as the person you wish to send money possesses a OneCard, they can be anywhere in the world! Please note, however, that using OneCard is confined to wherever Mastercard® is accepted. In certain countries and regions that have been blocked, they may be able to receive funds on their OneCard but they will not be able to spend them.

If you would like to wire money internationally, the same standards apply as they do to current transactions. People living in restricted countries and any countries that block funds will not be able to receive wires. For those, you are better off buying a OneCard with secondary cards, and then mailing out the secondary directly to your friend or family member. That way you can transfer them money instantly, without borders.

Unsure on whether your country is considered restricted? Simply pay a visit to your nearest Continental branch and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
