With longer days and warmer weather, there’s no better season to travel than the summertime. Since many of us get a break from school or work we look forward to our summer vacation every year – the thought of it keeps us warm all winter. Here are some ideas for the perfect summer trip!
Wine tasting in Tuscany
Tuscany is so rich with culture, history, and beauty. It’s the perfect spot for a summer vacation! Whether you’re into ancient Greek and Roman history, Renaissance art, or (in my case) wine, Tuscany is a great place to explore. Known for some of the world’s best wine regions, Tuscany’s claim to wine-fame is the Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and the dessert wine Vin Santo. There are tons of wine tours to choose from – even including horseback riding and helicopter tours. Alternatively, you can visit the vineyards on your own and charter your own adventure. Tuscany is beautiful in the summer with its hot sun, sandy beaches, and mountain backdrop. It’s the definition of a perfect summer trip.
There’s no better time to visit Boston than in the summer. Catch a game at Fenway Park, enjoy the abundant and delicious seafood, or take the hop-on-hop-off bus to discover the beautiful city. You can also take a day trip to Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard for more seaside beauty. Boston is always bustling in the summertime, so finding something to do is never a problem. There are several museums, historical (or haunted) walking tours, whale watching excursions, bars and clubs, and dinner cruises to choose from. Boston is the perfect place for any group – so whether you want a romantic getaway, a trip with friends, or a family vacation, Boston is the place to go.
Celebrate summer in Amsterdam
After months of cold winter, Amsterdam welcomes summer like no other city. Once it’s warm, Amsterdam takes everything outside. With outdoor festivals happening every weekend, bars and restaurants opening their patios and terraces (even expanding into nearby parks), outdoor movies and theatre, pop-up restaurants in parks, the list goes on and on (they had me at “festivals every weekend” though)! Oh, and Amsterdam also has tons of educational and fun tourist attractions like the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum for arts and history, and (on a different note) a tour of the Heineken brewery. Amsterdam is also known for being incredibly LGBTQ friendly (and just friendly in general) so everyone can be themselves. Get your bike-pedalling feet ready to cycle through the perfect summer vacation (because that’s the best way to see Amsterdam, duh).
Dubai Summer Surprises
From June 22nd to August 4th, all of Dubai goes on sale. Dubai is already a great shopping destination, but the deals get even better during the Summer Surprises Festival. More than just shopping, tourist attractions and activities go on sale like the Wild Wadi water park. If you don’t mind the heat, Dubai is a true summer vacation spot with high-temperature weather and sunshine. Don’t worry, there are several waterparks and an indoor skiing park to keep you cool. Dubai is bustling with art, great food, sandy beaches, desert safari tours, and tons of tourist attractions (from jet skiing to aquariums, to hot air ballooning). There’s something for everyone at this ultimate summer vacation destination.
Stockholm is one of Europe’s most dynamic capital cities. With its interesting architecture, cobblestone streets, bustling nightlife, several gorgeous parks, and fantastic shopping, Stockholm is the ideal place for a summer vacation for anyone. Sweden experiences cold and dark winters, but in the summertime, the days are long and sunny. Check out the Gröna Lund Amusement Park, hit an open-air restaurant, visit ABBA the museum, the Vasa Museum (where you can learn about the only preserved 17th century ship in the world), visit the first-ever open-air museum, or stroll through Gamla Stan (Old Town) to see one of the largest medieval city centres in Europe. Stockholm is also surrounded by the archipelago and lots of greenspace for the outdoorsy traveller, so you can paddle, bike, hike, and experience the Swedish summer in the way you like best!
Eat Pineapples in Lanai
There’s really no bad time to visit Hawaii, am I right? Hawaii’s peak season is the winter, so travelling there during the summer months will be cheaper and less crowded. Plan a trip at the beginning or end of summer when kids are in school for even less of a crowd. Lanai is one of Hawaii’s more remote islands and (the best part) is covered in pineapples! Only a few miles away from Maui, Lanai is the perfect getaway for relaxing on the beach, snorkelling, and adventuring. And, when you want to change pace, you can head next door to Maui.
Go Camping in the American Spa
Treat yourself to some pampering at Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. The park is home to healing and relaxing thermal waters, historical landmarks, and beautiful scenery and architecture. Check out the bathhouses, the hot springs, take a guided tour through the park or find a scenic hike to take. The park also has outdoor movies and activities in the summertime. For $30.00 a day, you can camp inside the park. Hot Springs National Park is the ultimate glamping summer experience. You can still get your camping and nature fix all the while getting the relaxation and repose you want from a summer trip.
