Taking on a summer music festival (or any kind of festival) is always a fun and exciting adventure – but it can also be exhausting and sometimes dangerous. Outdoor summer festivals are like a marathon, not a sprint. You have to pace yourself, stay sun-safe, and be responsible while having an amazing time! Here are our tips for surviving summer festival season.
1. Wear Comfortable Shoes
Typically, summer festival grounds are huge and spread out. You’ll be doing a lot of walking! From different concert stages, to vendors, to your campsite – it’s probably all by foot. So, wear comfortable shoes! Forget style and take care of your feet! Your whole body will thank you for it.
2. Wear Sunscreen
Wear sunscreen. Just do it. If you’re outside all day, you’re likely to get a tan once your sunscreen wears off anyway, so make sure you apply it as often as you can or else you’ll get burned. Protect your skin! And you know what, better throw on a hat while you’re at it!
3. Drink Responsibly
If you’re 19 or older, drinking at a summer festival is another safety concern. Some festivals are even dedicated to trying different beers, wines, and other alcohol. Please, drink responsibly!
4. Drink Water
Staying hydrated is key. With all the walking and sun exposure, you’re at risk of getting sun-stroke. And there’s nothing scarier (or more awkward) than fainting in the middle of a crowd at a summer festival. Especially if you’ve been drinking alcohol, drink water too.
As well as drinking water, having a full belly is important to keeping your strength up and avoiding sun-stroke. Again, especially if you’ve been drinking, make sure you’re eating food. However, if you are at a food festival, make sure you don’t overeat (or you might get sick)! Plus, festival food trucks are always AMAZING.
6. Power Nap
Make sure you’re as rested as possible for a full day of festivities. Sometimes it’s hard to sleep at night (whether because you’re up partying or because the campsite next-door is) – but it’s important to make sure you’re rested. Bring earplugs for the noisy night and power nap during the day when you can. Even if it’s just for 20 minutes, you’ll feel better.
If you love summer festivals, you’ll love these great festivals worth travelling for!
