The word “Mississauga” comes from an Anishinaabe word meaning “those at the Great River-mouth” which is exceptionally fitting since the city was already inhabited by the First Nations group Algonquian Mississaugas before European settlers arrived. Mississauga is one of the most diverse and exciting cities that we at Continental have the pleasure of calling home. Our branch at Erin Mills Town Centre allows our employees the opportunity to experience everything the city has to offer. Located just west of Toronto, Mississauga has some of the best shopping, nightlife, and big-city atmospheres out there! Plus, Sauggans enjoy a perfect mix of urban and green spaces with tons of trails and parks.
Things to Do in Mississauga
- Port Credit Waterfront sits right on beautiful Lake Ontario. Port Credit has lots of cute, local shops, a working lighthouse, a marina with a grounded freighter and trails that pass through various parks and forests in the area. Port Credit is a must-see in Mississauga. The gorgeous trails and window-shopping could keep you occupied all day!
- Mississauga Celebration Square is located in the heart of downtown Mississauga. Here, the city hosts many multicultural festivals and celebrations like Canada Day and New Year’s Eve parties, Light Up the Square, Olympic Games viewing on the big screen, and a skating rink in the winter.
- The Absolute Towers, nicknamed the Marilyn Monroe Towers are two uniquely Mississauga landmarks. They earned their nickname due to their curves and admirers. The towers are 50 and 56 stories of architectural beauty.
- Learn more about the history of Mississauga by participating in a walking tour in the summer. Both the Village of Streetsville and Clarkson Village offer free, educational, and fun walking tours throughout the area.
