The chill is in the air, the trees are losing their leaves, and the days are growing ever darker. While many Canadians have begun to look south, a good many more are counting down the days until the first snow and the opening of the ski season. But whether the local slopes aren’t cutting it, or you just can’t wait for the snow to come to you, we bring you the best currencies for skiers and snowboarders!
Canadian Dollar
Looking for world-class skiing? Luckily, as a Canadian, you won’t have to look far (our vast national distances notwithstanding)! Indeed, some of the most celebrated ski resorts in the world are located in the BC Rockies, and some fantastic skiing of its own is located in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains. With all this, the Canadian dollar is without question one of the premier currencies for skier/snowboarders.
United States Dollar
With great skiing, in some cases even less far away for Canadians than slopes in Canada, the resorts of Colorado, Utah and Vermont make the US dollar one of the best currencies for skiers and snowboarders.
Euro
The eurozone encompasses the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps, and with them some of the absolute best skiing in the world. Longing for the ski-trip of a lifetime? Look no further than Europe, and the euros that will pay for it.
Japanese Yen
This next one might surprise you, but Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido has some of the best powder in the world. Pair that together with the region’s renowned natural hot springs, and the thought of a full board of sushi and a warm bottle of sake awaiting you after a long day on the slopes, and you’ve got the makings of an unforgettable ski holiday.
Chilean Peso
While there is no shortage of world-class skiing and snowboarding in the Northern Hemisphere, the winter only lasts so long. Can’t wait for the next? Head south! Chile has a number of great ski regions; and where else in the world can you enjoy a great glass of local wine after a day spent skiing down a volcano?
Argentine Peso
From Chile, it’s a (relatively) quick jump across to Argentina for some equally great South American slopes. With fantastic resorts and skiing down the entire length of the country, Argentine pesos are a great thing to have in the wallet of any skier/snowboarder.
Norwegian Krone
By now we’ve covered virtually all of the best downhill ski and snowboarding destinations the world has on offer, but for the dedicated skier there’s one other currency that deserves an honourable mention: the Norwegian krone. With some respectable downhill slopes of its own and some of the best cross-country skiing in the world, the land that first invented skiing is certainly worth the visit.
